Hi
First off thanx for your work! I keep getting an error which seems to be related to the Query proerty in the webpart file.
String in property:
<property name="Query" type="string"><Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='Title' /><Value Type='Text'>Value</Value></Eq></Where></property>
Error message when displaying webpart:
ERROR in Query!ValueSystem.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPListItemCollection.get_Item(Int32 iIndex) at KhaledWebparts.MediaPlayerWebpart.RenderWebPart(HtmlTextWriter output)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks for downloading my webpart!

Could you please provide me with a screenshot of the list you created in steps 17-28 and a screenshot of the list settings page showing all the columns (on the list, click settings -> list settings)?

Thanks,

I'm having exactly the same issue after following the install instructions.

Did this get solved?

Hi,

I am the developer of this web part, to help you resolve your problem, I would require you to provide me the following:

  • The contents of your .webpart/.dwp file (The one you uploaded in step 43)
  • A screenshot of the list (the one you provided in step 40)
  • A screenshot of the list settings page of the list (On list click Settings -> List settings), showing all the columns

You can use http://imageshack.us/ to upload your screenshots.

Thanks,

Hi, I am very sorry there seems to have been a mistake in the documentation, that I have resolved now.

Please make the following adjustments to your .webpart file:

<property name="Query" type="string"><Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='Title' /><Value Type='Text'>Value</Value></Eq></Where></property>

should be

<property name="Query" type="string"><Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='Title' /><Value Type='Text'>JWPlayer</Value></Eq></Where></property>

and

<property name="Listnamevalfield" type="string">JWPlayer</property>

should be

<property name="Listnamevalfield" type="string">Value</property>

Please let me know, if it still does not work.

Again I apologise for this mistake, I am planning to do a video and possibly add a few screenshots on how to install this webpart, and possibly automate some of the installation using an automated installer.

Hi,
Thanks for the rely, I'll try that as soon as I can.
It would be a good idea to have the default webpart file configured to match your documentation, then at least it works out of the box.

Hi,

You seem to have added the List view web part to the List you created instead of adding the actual web part.

What you need to do is add the webpart called "MediaPlayerWebpart" which can be found under "Miscellaneous", then carry out the steps 38-43.

Oct 26, 2010 at 10:10 AM
Edited Oct 27, 2010 at 6:57 AM

Here are the outcomes as explained in sequence:

Step1:
I looked for the webpart and added it, got an error message

ERROR: No list specified, please contact your system administrator!
LIST-URL Example: htpp://www.contoso.com/teamsite/lists/List Name

Screenshot

http://img21.imageshack.us/i/errormsgmediaplayer.png/

Step2:

But I did see a button to export and hence I could export the webpart for making changes. And here the changes I made:

<webParts>
  <webPart xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebPart/v3">
    <metaData>
      <type name="KhaledWebparts.MediaPlayerWebpart, MediaPlayerWebpart, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7e91954d53dba15b" />
      <importErrorMessage>Cannot import this Web Part.</importErrorMessage>
    </metaData>
    <data>
      <properties>
        <property name="Listnamefieldval" type="string" />
        <property name="HelpMode" type="helpmode">Modeless</property>
        <property name="Desc" type="string" />
        <property name="Mediaurl" type="string" />
        <property name="Listnamefield" type="string" />
        <property name="AllowConnect" type="bool">True</property>
        <property name="Pwidth" type="string" />
        <property name="Title" type="string">MediaPlayerWebpart</property>
        <property name="Hidden" type="bool">False</property>
        <property name="Textabove" type="string" />
        <property name="MissingAssembly" type="string">Cannot import this Web Part.</property>
        <property name="TitleIconImageUrl" type="string" />
        <property name="ChromeState" type="chromestate">Normal</property>
        <property name="Description" type="string" />
        <property name="Valuetype" type="string">Text</property>
        <property name="AllowMinimize" type="bool">True</property>
        <property name="ChromeType" type="chrometype">Default</property>
        <property name="AllowEdit" type="bool">True</property>
        <property name="AllowZoneChange" type="bool">True</property>
        <property name="Ptitle" type="string" />
        <property name="Width" type="string" />
        <property name="Autoplay" type="bool">False</property>
        <property name="TitleUrl" type="string" />
        <property name="Query" type="string"><Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='Title' /><Value  Type='Text'>JWPlayer</Value></Eq></Where></property>
        <property name="Textbelow" type="string" />
        <property name="HelpUrl" type="string" />
        <property name="CatalogIconImageUrl" type="string" />
        <property name="ExportMode" type="exportmode">All</property>
        <property name="Pheight" type="string" />
        <property name="Videourl" type="string" />
        <property name="Direction" type="direction">NotSet</property>
        <property name=“Listurl” type=“string”> INTRANET/Lists/MediaPlayerWebPartHTML</property>
        <property name="Height" type="string" />
        <property name="Listnamevalfield" type="string">Value</property>
        <property name="AllowHide" type="bool">True</property>
        <property name="AllowClose" type="bool">True</property>
      </properties>
    </data>
  </webPart>
</webParts>

Step 3:

After making changes, I added the newly changed webpart into the web part gallery.

Once added, I cameback to the root and tried adding media player webpart webpart into the webpage, and here is the error I got:

Unable to add selected webpart

Media Player WebPart: The file you imported is not valid, verify that the file is a webpart description file (.webpart, .dwp file).etc

Error message: Screenshot

See, if you can help or let me know where I may be going wrong.

Hi,

The outcome you got in Step 1 is fine. The reason your code is not working lies in the fact that if you look closely enough on the line that says:
<property name=“Listurl” type=“string”> http://moss1/sites/PMIC/Lists/MediaPlayerWebPartHTML</property>
you can see that the quotation marks are "curly" quotation marks ( ) instead of he normal ones ( " ). (To really notice the difference I would copy & paste this post into a program like Microsoft Word and enlarge the quotation marks)

You can always go to http://www.w3schools.com/dom/dom_validate.asp and check the validity of any *.webpart/*.dwp or any other XML files. I have now corrected this for you and here is the code:

<webParts>
  <webPart xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebPart/v3">
    <metaData>
      <type name="KhaledWebparts.MediaPlayerWebpart, MediaPlayerWebpart, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7e91954d53dba15b" />
      <importErrorMessage>Cannot import this Web Part.</importErrorMessage>
    </metaData>
    <data>
      <properties>
        <property name="Listnamefieldval" type="string" />
        <property name="HelpMode" type="helpmode">Modeless</property>
        <property name="Desc" type="string" />
        <property name="Mediaurl" type="string" />
        <property name="Listnamefield" type="string" />
        <property name="AllowConnect" type="bool">True</property>
        <property name="Pwidth" type="string" />
        <property name="Title" type="string">MediaPlayerWebpart</property>
        <property name="Hidden" type="bool">False</property>
        <property name="Textabove" type="string" />
        <property name="MissingAssembly" type="string">Cannot import this Web Part.</property>
        <property name="TitleIconImageUrl" type="string" />
        <property name="ChromeState" type="chromestate">Normal</property>

        <property name="Autoplay" type="bool">False</property>
        <property name="TitleUrl" type="string" />

  </webPart>
</webParts>

This should hopefully work now. By the way for the sake of your SharePoint site being used externally (currently or in the future). It may be appropriate to keep a relative path to the swf file rather than an absolute path (i.e. delete http://PD from your HTML code, but keep the initial slash) (e.g. /sites/IU/PMOPictureLibrary/player.swf).

Hi,

Yes. Looking back at your screenshot (http://img139.imageshack.us/i/mediaplayerwebpart.png/) I can see another error in your .webpart file.

You have specified that the title of the row is JWPlayer (<property name="Query" type="string"><Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='Title' /><Value Type='Text'>JWPlayer</Value></Eq></Where></property>)
While in the list you have named it MediaPlayerWebPartHTML, you've got to either change that name in the .webpart to match the one in the list or change the name in the list to match the one in the .webpart file. Easiest of course would be to go to your list (http://moss1/sites/PMIC/Lists/MediaPlayerWebPartHTML) and change MediaPlayerWebPartHTML to JWPlayer .

It seems that I can only delete complete postings but only edit my own. Haven't you got an option next to your postings on the right to Edit like I have?

Hi,

Sorry for the late response. I was busy preparing a video tutorial on how to install the MediaPlayerWebPart, which you can now find here:
http://mpwp.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=How%20to%20install%20the%20Media%20Player%20Web%20Part%20%28Video%29

A .wmv will not work with the JWPlayer (Flash version) you will need the Silverlight version of the JWPlayer for this. (http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-wmv-player/)
For this you will need to add another row to the MediaPlayerWebPartHTML list, and specifying an appropriate title for it (e.g. JWPlayerSilverlight) while having an appropriate HTML code for it. As well as re-exporting a .webpart file and replacing JWPlayer with JWPlayerSilverlight (or appropriate).
This can then be saved to the WebPart Gallery with a different title so that you have two webparts available, one for playing flv, mp3, mp4 (and perhaps more) and one for playing .wmv and other formats supported by Silverlight. I have however not had a chance to produce a tutorial on that.

Now to your problem of not being able to play the file. This could be do to an outdated version of Flash (Flash 10.1 is the latest), a corrupted file or a wrong file format. I would recommend you to view the video tutorial I have put up to make sure that you have not missed any important steps while you were performing the installation.
